HISTORY: On June 18, 2022 at Madison Square Garden in New York WBC & IBF World Light Heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev fought WBO Light Heavyweight champion Joe Smith, Jr. in a title unification bout. Beterbiev stopped Smith, Jr. in the 2nd round. Smith Jr. down in the second minute of round 1, but the referee rules it a slip. Smith Jr. down at the end of round one from an overhand right to the temple. Smith Jr. down twice in round 2. The referee stops the fight when consecutive uppercuts from Beterbiev send Smith Jr. stumbling backwards and seemingly dazed.
