Jack Johnson, the first African-American to win the World Heavyweight Title accomplished that feat defeating Tommy Burns in Australia on December 26, 1908. Later defeated Stanley Ketchel and former champion James Jeffries. Presented here is a 1910 Lafayette Theatre Program where Jack Johnson appeared daily as Heavyweight Champion of the World.
This is a 1910 Theatre Program from the Lafayette Burlesque House in Buffalo, NY. Jack Johnson would appear there daily to sign autographs and exhibit his fight equipment. The Program measures 5 1/4" x 7 1/2" and is 8 pages in length. Jack Johnson's name and appearance information are boldly printed in the program. There is some pencil writing in the program. The program has a light fold across the middle. Johnson appeared at the theatre as Heavyweight Champion of the World.
