HISTORY: On December 11, 1942 at Madison Square Garden in New York heavyweight contenders Tami Mauriello and Lou Nova met in the main event. Mauriello knocked Nova out in the 6th round. Mauriello was knocked down for a nine count in the 1st round. Nova seemed to be doing well until he was KO'd in the 6th round, suffering a broken rib and torn cartilage in the bout. By virtue of this win, Mauriello moved closer to the title of "Interim Heavyweight Champion," as reigning champion Joe Louiswas currently serving in the United States military.
