HISTORY: On June 11, 1980 at Nippon Budokan, Tokyo, Japan WBC world bantamweight champion Lupe Pintor defended his title against Eljiro Murata. After 15 rounds the fight was declared a draw by split decision. Pintor, who was fighting outside of North America for the first time as a professional, started out well; landing three sharps jabs to the Japanese challenger's face, but Murata countered with a combination to the champion's head. The champion slipped to the canvas in the seventh round and the eight saw both fighters suffer cuts over their right eyes. In the ninth, Pintor cut Murata over the left eye with a solid left jab.
