On February 26, 1943 at the Olympia in Detroit welterweights Sugar Ray Robinson and Jake LaMotta fought for the third time. Robinson avenged his first professional defeat at the hands of LaMotta three weeks earlier winning a unanimous ten round decision. Referee Hennessey had Robinson winning 51-49 points (5-3-2 in rounds); Fisher gave it to Robinson 53-47 (6-2-2 in rounds); Lenahan scored it for Robinson 56-44 (8-1-1 in rounds). Robinson was floored for a nine-count in round seven and said later "He really hurt me with a left in the seventh round. I was a little dazed and decided to stay on the deck.." Robinson's best round was the fourth in which he hurt LaMotta. It was a polished performance for Robinson, who outboxed LaMotta most of the way with a dazzling left jab and jarring uppercuts.. Offered here is a rare, original, official program for this event.
