Tapia won a close 12 round majority decision and the title. Also on the show future world champion Jermain Taylor stopped Joe Garcia in the 6th round of a middleweight contest and in a heavyweight bout Jameel McCline won a 10 round unanimous decision over Shannon Briggs.
