ROBINSON, SUGAR RAY-CHARLIE FUSARI ON SITE POSTER (1950)

HISTORY: On August 9, 1950 at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, New Jersey World Welterweight Champion Sugar Ray Robinson defended his title against tough Charley Fusari, Robinson successfully defended his crown winning a unanimous 15 round decision.  At the official weigh-in, Robinson was 147¼ when he first stepped on the scale. After a couple of trips to a steam box, he was able to make the welterweight limit. This was Robinson's last fight as a welterweight. Robinson was paid one dollar for the Fusari fight. The rest of his purse went to the Damon Runyon Memorial Fund for Cancer Research. In his autobiography, Robinson claimed that he agreed to carry Fusari the 15-round distance. FULL DESCRIPTION: This poster is cardboard and pictures both fighters. Actual original photographs were used for the poster. 22" x 28." The photos have an ornate frame around them. Minor soiling and one small stain by the S in Robinson. Color remains bold. Minor restoration to the back of the poster which includes the reinforcement of the photos for protection and the reinforement of one corner. Extremely rare poster of Robinson from his days as World Welterweight Champion.
