HISTORY: On November 23, 1904 at the National Athletic Club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania former light heavyweight champion Jack Root fought Tommy Ryan in a non title bout. After four rounds referee Jack McGuigan declared the match a no contest. From the beginning the bout looked like a fake one. During the fourth round, Root knocked Ryan down with a light punch. It looked like Ryan was dazed. Referee McGuigan declared the bout to be fake and left the ring. The fighters had to be escorted through the crowd (Los Angeles Times). Offered here is a rare full, unused ticket to the event. Authenticated by PSA/DNA and graded FR 1.5.
FULL DESCRIPTION: This is an original, full, unused ticket. Printed on heavy stock it names the fighters and has a section and seat number. Stub firmly attached. Ornate back. Small chip in lower left corner. Edge and corner wear. Minor crease at top right corner. No tears. Bold color and print. Minor spotting at top right border. 2 5/8" x 5 3/8."
