HISTORY: On November 22, 1985 at the Sands Casino Hotel in Atlantic City Marlon Starling and Simon Brown battled for the IBF USBA Welterweight Title. Starling one a close 12 round split decision. "Walking forward behind a peek-a-boo defense, Starling, 35-3 (20), consistently minimized the distance between he and his foe, dominated the first half of the bout, and scored a split-decision win. The difference appeared to be experience. Starling, 27, had faced such notable 147-pounders as Donald Curry (twice), Tommy Ayers, Kevin Howard, and Pedro Vilella. The 22-year-old Brown, on the other hand, had compiled an undefeated record mostly against clubfighters and fading veterans. KO scored for Starling, 118-112." (KO magazine April 1986).
