Regular price $175.00

On June 8, 1933 at Yankee Stadium in New York heavyweights Max Baer and Max Schmeling met in the featured match. Baer stopped Schmeling in the 10th round. Schmeling was floored for about an eight-count, and got back up groggy. Baer continued to pummel his opponent before Referee Donovan stepped in to spare Schmeling from further punishment. A crowd of 53,000 (with another 3,300 with passes)--including Jack Sharkey and Primo Carnera--paid $239,676.07, to assure a fair profit for Jack Dempsey in his first big promotional venture. Offered here is an original wire photo which depicts the two fighters touching gloves before the start of the fight.
This is an original United Press wire photo with their stamp and a label on back. Bold, clear image. Clean front and back. Tiny crease at lower left white border. No tears. 7" x 9."
