On December 14, 1964 at Convention Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania middleweight champion Joey Giardello defended his title against hard punching Rubin "Hurricane" Carter. Giardello won a 15 round unanimous decision. Offered here is an original wire photo depicting the two fighters clowning around at the pre fight medical exam on December 9, 1964 where Carter was told he had to shave his beard.
