Jack Dempsey fought Tom Gibbons on July 4, 1923. Dempsey won by decision after 15 rounds to successfully defend his World Heavyweight Title. The fight was held in Shelby, Montana and nearly bankrupted the town. It was forever more known as the "Rape Of Shelby." Offered here is an origianl panoramic photograph of this event which pictures both fighters, the arena built for the evnt and the nearby oil fields which created the town.
This is an original panoramic photograph. Some minor spotting on right end. Some minor creases at the two ends. Minor tape repair on back of left end (no paper loss). Bold, clear images. Generally clean. Originally sold by the Shelby Merchant and comes with the original 2 cent mailing envelope used in 1923 to mail to a buyer named Joseph Biever by Johnny Biever who actually attended the fight. 8" x 34."
