"Roberto Duran, making his first appearance in nearly five months, had to go 10 grueling rounds here Tuesday night to gain a unanimous decision over Saoul Mamby of New York. Duran said before the fight he hoped for a quick knockout, but from the opening bell, Duran had troubles handling the quick left jabs of Mamby and never got his opponent in trouble. Mamby, an ex-NY cab driver, proved himself much better than a record that now stands at 15-9-2 (boxrec had it at 18-9-5) indicates." -Associated Press. This bout was meant as a tuneup for Duran before his title defense against Lou Bizzarro, less than 3 weeks hence on May 23rd in Erie, Pa.
