On March 30, 1965 at Madison Square Garden in New York two championship fights capped off a great night of boxing. World Light Heavyweight champion Willie Pastrano defended his title against Jose Torres. Torres stopped Pastrano in the 9th round to win the title. This was Pastrano's last fight. World Welterweight champion Emile Griffith successfully defended his title winning a unanimous 15 round decision over Jose Stable.
