HISTORY: On May 23,1952 Jake LaMotta met Eugene Hairston in a Middleweight bout. The fight between LaMotta and Hairston after10 rounds was declared a majority decision draw . The scrap was so close that both judges scored it even 50 points for each fighter. Referee Morris Sherman saw it for Hairston by a 52-48 margin. Hairston's body attack slowed Jake down on several occasions, but the Bronx slugger bounced back to even things with the younger Hairston. Both fighters were warned several times as they tossed low blows during the heated action, which had the crowd standing and cheering. Presented here is an original, first generation, large format wire photo from the bout.
