HISTORY: On March 29, 1997 heavyweights Michael Moorer and Vaughn Bean fought in the main event at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas. In a lackluster fight Moorer, the IBF champion prevailed winning a majority 12 round decision in defense of his title. Bout official presumably February 14/15. Moorer was a 6-1 favorite. Bean entered the fight as the IBF #5 heavyweight contender. Moorer earned $3.6 million and Bean got $500,000. "Styles make fights. I was the aggressor. I used my jab," Michael Moorer said. "I'm finished. I watched Cud D'Amato [Atlas's late mentor] at the end. I saw him give in and allow himself to be treated badly just to be with a fighter. I saw that and I vowed it would never happen to me. I have no guilt. I did my job [Saturday] night," Teddy Atlas said. Bean's promoter, Butch Lewis, complained that the judges had been influenced by negative media coverage leading up to the bout and said he might press the IBF to mandate a rematch.

Also on the show in a welterweight match Julio Cesar Chavez won a unanimous ten round decision over Tony Martin and Ricardo Lopez successfully defended his WBC World Minimum Title winning a unanimous 12 round decision over Mongkol Charoen
