HISTORY: On October 1, 1965 at the War Memorial in Johnstown, Pennsylvania former world champion Sugar Ray Robinson fought Peter Schmidt in a middleweight bout. Robinson won a ten round unanimous decision at the age of 44. Schmidt was the Canadian welterweight champion. Schimdt hit Robinson hard in the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds. Robinson knocked Schmidt down twice in the eighth round. When asked why he continued to fight at the age of 44, Robinson said, "I'm a boxer, what else can I do?" Offered here is the original contract for the fight signed by both Sugar Ray Robinson and hall of fame promoter Don Elbaum.

Signed in ink at the bottom by Sugar Ray Robinson and promoter Don Elbaum. Includes original folds. Has a small piece of card stock attached to the bottom (which can be removed. Crease at lower left corner. Edge and corner wear. Clean. 8 1/2" x 14." Exceedingly rare, the only Robinson fight contract we have offered for sale.
