ROPER, JACK ADVERTISING POSTER (1939-FOR JOE LOUIS FIGHT)

On April 17, 1939 at Wrigley Field in Los Angeles heavyweight champion Joe Louis defended his title against Jack Roper in front of approximately 25,000 fans. Louis unleashed a savage attack against Roper and knocked him out at 2:20 of the very first round. Offered here is an original advertising poster put out in 1939 by Dick Donald, the manager of Jack Roper, predicting a knockout victory for Roper. Embarrassingly, it went the other way and quickly.
