On December 13, 1937 at Madison Square Garden in New York heavyweights max Schmeling and Harry Thomas squared off in the main event. Schmelin, the former champion and fresh off his startling victory over Joe Louis was the superior fighter from the outset. The fight ended when referee Arthur Donovan waved off the action in the 8th round awarding the victory to Schmeling who continued his march to a title shot. Offered here is an original wire photo depicting Schmeling standing over the fallen Harry Thomas.
