Young Stribling was born on Dec. 26, 1904 in Bainbridge, Georgia. He fought as a heavyweight during the 1920's and early 1930's. His first fight was on January 17, 1921. During his career he fought Mike McTigue, Tommy Loughran, Battling Levinsky, Maxie Rosenbloom, Jack Sharkey, Primo Carnera and Max Schmeling. His last fight was on September 22, 1933 a ten round decision over Maxie Rosenbloom. 11 days later "The King Of The Canebrakes" was dead. He died October 3, 1933, after a motorcycle/automobile accident when he was just 28. The accident occurred October 1 outside of Macon, Georgia. Offered here is an original wire photo depicting Young Stribling in Paris with his father and promoter Jeff Dickson on July 18, 1930 shortly before Stribling fought Phil Scott.
