Gene Tunney was born May 25, 1897 in New York City. He won the American Light Heavyweight Title on January 13, 1922 in a bout with Battling Levinsky. He won the World Heavyweight Title on September 23, 1926 against Jack Dempsey. He retired after his July 26, 1928 fight with Tom Heeney in which he retained the World Heavyweight Title. His final record was 77-1-3 with 45 KO's. Offered here is a magnificent studio photograph of Gene Tunney which he has signed to famous promoter James Coffroth.
This is an original, first generation, large format photograph. Signed in lower left corner by the photographer. Twice signed and inscribed on the white portion of the photo, "To Jim Coffroth, A Man of the past and present who prefers living in the present, with affectionate regards Gene Tunney Oct 28-27" and "Sincerely Gene Tunney."
